Abstract

Electric railway traction system is a dynamically varying load with high power rating. In addition to this, the usage of power electronic converter in this system causes power quality problems like harmonic distortion, negative sequence component of current, voltage unbalance, voltage fluctuation, etc. This affects the upstream power supply and needs to be compensated. A D-STATCOM based system is proposed in order to minimize the harmonics generated in the traction power supply system and to eliminate the negative sequence component of current.
