Abstract
Next, we inspect that conscripted army of urban industrialism, the statuary that rather silently inhabits our cities to this day. Silent until your tramps are startled on this sojourn by the sudden intrusion of one of these stony monuments in everyday life. Here, we awaken an army of the dead, inspecting, as never really done, the credentials of their claims to history. Often as not, statues tell the keen eye a story of capitalist violence and excess; your tramps recovering hard meaning well beyond the polishing homilies of monumental inscriptions.
