Abstract
In the multi-purpose banquet hall of an international hotel in the Yizhuang Economic Development Zone in southwest Beijing, attendees at an international conference take a tea break. After an attempt at communication between Safah from Saudi Arabia and Xiaolin, an English-speaking member of the hotel staff, gets nowhere, the only solution was to ask for help from the “new colleague” robot in the hotel lobby. Through the language recognition function the robot automatically switches to Arabic mode. Following a simple conversation, this “new colleague” helps Safah to make an appointment for 7 pm check-out and airport drop-off service.
