Abstract
Chemiluminescence (CL) is an eminent and significant analytical technique, because of its low background signal, simple readout methods, and inherent sensitivity, which make it a suitable choice for biosensors. This detection strategy can be used for miniaturization and integration in bio-microelectromechanical systems (BioMEMS) to develop low cost portable assays for point of care applications. This chapter provides a thorough review on the latest advancements of BioMEMS that operate based on the principle of CLÂ detection. Among the provided examples, paper-based devices, microfluidic devices including lab-on-chip devices (LOC) and lab-on-compact-disk (LOCD) devices, and alternative techniques will be reviewed. A detailed comparison between the fabrication and operation of these devices along with the advantages and disadvantages of each technique are also included in this chapter.
