Abstract
This chapter contains a review of the literature on youth employment. It begins by conceptualising youth employment within the framework of economic theories. It discusses concepts such as the Beveridge curve and the matching function and uses them to highlight some of the nuances of the labour market of Bangladesh. It also includes a brief description of how education may be viewed as a coordination game. It then analyses the empirical evidence on youth employment in Bangladesh by looking into the data on employment to GDP elasticity, jobs created, unemployment rate, Doing Business indicators, and other indicators.
