Abstract

President George W. Bush’s intrinsic belief in democracy promotion as a way to take nations forward is severely tested by ground conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan, two countries under US control. Failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq nullifies the public case for the invasion of Iraq. Shifting the rationale for the war to bringing democracy to Iraq dims the luster of the Freedom Agenda.
