Abstract
Pilocarpine is an alkaloid extracted from Pilocarpus jaborandi, which is one of cholinomimetic drugs. Pilocarpine activates cholinergic M-receptor and has an obvious effect on eyes and salivary glands. Pilocarpine nitrate is mainly used to treat glaucoma clinically. However, the interaction time is extremely short due to its low bioavailability. Therefore, many researchers still make a contribution to improve dosage forms of pilocarpine, including increasing intraocular permeability and bioavailability, cutting times of medication, reducing toxicity, and improving efficacy.
