Abstract
In order achieve better prevention and control of infectious diseases , there is need for team work using bottom-top approaches that constructively engage communities. This requires collaboration between governments , researchers and the community to work together in order to reach a common goal. Vital statistics is a fundamental aspect in enumeration and identification of causes of deaths. Understanding the health of a community as well as in designing effective disease prevention and control strategies are needed for effective disease management. The infection tree theory and the infection tree are suggested tools in designing disease prevention and control strategies for a population. Prevention and control of infectious diseases is not only the responsibility of Governments and NGOs , but a concerted effort between these stakeholders and the communities in the affected areas. Understanding the communities’ livelihoods , geographical location , culture and traditions will assist in designing better strategies for these communities. Establishing contact and dialogue between the community and stakeholders is needed.
