Abstract
This chapter examines and critiques the instrumental ontologies of education policy analysis related to ‘solving problems’. We use Michel Foucault’s (1982b, 1985, 1988b, 1994a) concept of problematization to query the roles associated with researchers who believe they are solving problems, and posits alternative roles that policy researchers might assume when working in education.
