Abstract
Demographic transformations in European and other industrialised countries do not only raise important challenges in the development of ageing policies but also offer new possibilities and perspectives. Responding to the challenges of population ageing on behalf of both governments and civil society is crucial for advancing higher levels of active and successful ageing.
