Abstract
Events on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida, did not awaken Americans to discrepancies in how citizens are treated in the United States nor did they revitalize a justice system permeated with bias toward young Black males. The events did, however, underscore the pervasive tension between cultural groups, the frustration and fear of African American parents, and the feebleness of a nation coming to terms with its frailties.
