India is a nation with a variety of cultures and art forms. Each state is gifted with a unique folk art that is preserved and passed on from one generation to another. Although all states in India are linguistically diversified, yet they are bonded by a common thread of folk art, the origin of which lies in Sanskrit language and literature. Indeed Sanskrit language is the soul of Marathi Keertan. Although each and every art form is presented in its respective language, the subject matter, references and resources mostly evolve from Sanskrit literature itself. Hence Sanskrit is considered as the mother of all art forms in India. “Puranas” written in Sanskrit language are the great treasures of moral stories that are efficiently utilized in various folk arts to educate masses.
