Abstract
As forest management certification became accepted by many companies and institutions, provisions were made to make it applicable to forest plantations. Since then, multiple forest certification standards under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) have become available for companies wishing to certify their plantations and thus identify their desire to become leaders in sustainable forest management. Although not without controversies in some countries, forest certification has become a valuable tool for gaining or maintaining market share and improving the image of plantation forestry.
