Emerging Issues in Prison Health

Abstract

Which opportunities are being left for prisoners to create masculinity? In this chapter practicing sport is given as an example for prisoners to regain power and take control over the creation and re-creation of themselves. The social inclusion of prisoners through sport demands a more inclusive approach which also deals with Prison as an ultramasculine world where nobody talks about masculinity.

‘Prison is an ultramasculine world where nobody talks about masculinity.’ (Sabo, Kupers, and London 2001: 3)
