Abstract

A review is given of calculations performed to date with statistical turbulence models of flow past buildings and building-like structures. Calculation examples include flow past buildings of various shapes (cubical or cylindrical) placed in the atmospheric boundary layer as well as flow past long cylinders with vortex shedding. In the latter case, the statistical turbulence models have the task of simulating the effect of the stochastic turbulence superimposed on periodic vortex-shedding fluctuations. Calculations with various turbulence models (mainly k-ε model and Reynolds-stress-equation models) are presented and compared with experimental results and in some cases with large-eddy simulations.
