Abstract
The science of plant breeding, that has produced substantial increases in productivity to feed a continually increasing population, has over the last decade undergone a revolution of a magnitude never before seen. As scientists we truly are honored to live through these times. The new tools of “genomics” and biotechnology have led to a dramatic increase in the knowledge base from which we work, and open the doors to custom design of plants with a wide array of specific genetic characteristics.
