Abstract
For the past several years I have been attempting to describe and explain residential mobility and residential search behavior. My objective in this paper is to investigate a series of simple distance-decay models which are designed to predict where a household will look for a new residence within an urban area. The proposed models, although couched in residential search terms, are potentially applicable to other human activities involving the selection of an alternative from a set of spatially distributed possibilities.
