Isolation And Nucleotide Sequence Analysis of the Ferredoxin Gene from the Cyanobacterium Anacystis Nidulans R2

  • Chapter
Progress in Photosynthesis Research

Abstract

As the terminal constituent of the photosynthetic electron transport chain, the non-heme, iron-sulphur protein, ferredoxin, plays a central role in the photoreduction of NADP, cyclic photophosphorylation and a number of other essential metabolic processes. In some cyanobacteria and plants, two distinct ferredoxins have been detected (1) which appear to be encoded by distinct structural genes. While it has been proposed that the two ferredoxins may differ in function, no differences have been detected to date.
