Abstract
In 1994, a new high temperature superconducting family was discovered in the Ba-Ca-Cu-O system [1–3]. Subsequently, the presence of carbon forming CO3 groups was detected by high resolution electron microscopy [4], and confirmed from EELS measurements [5]. The general formula Cul−yCyBa2Can−1CunOx was thus proposed for this family. The samples are prepared at high temperature (≈ 1000°C) and under high pressure (≈ 8GPa) generated in a belt-type apparatus. Members with n=3 to 6 have been observed by electron diffraction, but only the n=3 and n=4 members are obtained as bulk phases.
