Abstract
One of the parameters by which the importance of a financial centre can be measured is the degree of internationalisation of the banking sector there. This paper will not be concerned with aspects of, or reasons for, the attractiveness of a financial centre, but will compare the results of all past efforts to build up an international and competitive financial centre on the basis of the degree of internationalisation of the banking sector in two countries, namely Belgium and the Netherlands.
