Abstract

The riparian forest of Middle-Europe is marked in its ecology by its high groundwater and its periodical floods. Both conditions are very much impaired by men: the groundwater by lowering due to regulations, floods by dams as protection against high water. By the building of power-stations the stream will be a row of canalized damming ups, there is quite a loss of riparian forest connected with the “dry building method”, the water household of the riparian forests is impaired but with all that the lack of floods causes that industries and docks and traffic connections are possible, all at the cost of the riparian forest. Further impairments are caused by caloric and atomic power-stations in this area, by settlements in the region near cities and by wrong forestry.
