Abstract

Considering the present status of environmental pollutants such as heavy metals and organochlorine pesticides, their levels are decreasing, at least in the developed countries, thanks to a wider awareness of the problem. At the same time the number of chemicals monitored has increased with the improvement of methods of detection. However, the chronic and complex effects on the biota of these micro-pollutants over a long period of time are not fully understood.
