Abstract
The essential instruments that are considered necessary to keep the driver informed of correct operation of the engine and other systems or components include the Cooling Water Temperature Gauge, Oil Pressure Gauge, Ammeter, Main Tank Fuel-Level Gauge, Speedometer and Clock. In addition, there are certain indicating lights arranged on the instrument panel, which sometimes take the place of separate instruments, e.g. the Oil Pressure and Current Discharge Warning Lights. The Direction or Turn Indicator, of the Flasher type, is also provided with a coloured indicator light, or lights. Similarly, on most modern cars there is a small lamp on the instrument panel which illuminates when the Headlamp driving beams are in the raised position, i.e. not dipped.
