Austrian Experience with Etretinate

  • Chapter
Retinoid Therapy

Abstract

Etretinate has been used by our group as an experimental drug since 1976 in more than 500 patients suffering from a spectrum of hyperkeratotic skin conditions and a few disorders of the dermal collagen. Our clinical experience has been presented in several reports;1–12 it is largely in agreement with the numerous clinical studies which have been published in the past years by many, particularly European, groups. Today, the extraordinary therapeutic effects, the posology and side-effects of etretinate appear to be well known and accepted; in this paper, we therefore wish to express a few general views concerning the indications and limitations of etretinate, which have emerged from our experience with this drug.
