Abstract

We present the results of a coupled experimental and numerical study into the shock induced combustion of ethylene in a flow over a rectangular ramp. We describe the experimental apparatus and compare the results with numerical model predictions. The induction delay for the mixture of interest is measured and compared with predictions from kinetic modelling and previous publications. The numerical results are used to interpret the features evident in both the experimental schlieren photographs and the computer code output.
