Photosynthetic Response of Species That are Included in a Group of Vernal Ephemerals

  • Chapter
Progress in Botanical Research

Abstract

The term ephemerals denotes an ecological group of species that complete their life cycle during a short period, when environmental conditions are suitable for existence and reproduction. The short life cycle succeeding a period of dormant stage represents a powerful adaptation to periodically disturbed environments. The periodic disturbances involve seasons with unfavorable environmental factor such as drought, extreme temperatures, reduced light intensity etc.
