Abstract
In order to identify new Populus lines, STS (Sequence Tagged Site) and RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) marker analysis were performed on eight Populus deltoides x Populus deltoides hybrids and Populus deltoiudes (77/51) which was used as control. For RAPD analysis STS primers were used in single forms. Four of the five STS primers and seven of ten RAPD markers produced amplified PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) bands. Polymorphism values were found to be between 7–70%. As a result, it is concluded that STS marker analysis, just like RAPD can also be utilized in selecting and identifying the high-quality poplar lines for paper and pulp industry.
