Abstract
It is an honor and a pleasure to be chosen to give this lecture in memory of Cyril Ponnamperuma. Cyril was a good friend and colleague for more than thirty years, during which time we shared in the excitement of many events and discoveries in the growing scientific activity associated with the origins of life, and the possibilities of extraterrestrial life. I have the fondest memories of a long visit to Sri Lanka which I and some colleagues made, with Cyril as our generous host and tour guide. It was an eye-opener, once again revealing Cyril’s scientific expertise, and the energy he brought to developing science programs all over the world. He was a unique individual of great talents who will not be duplicated.
