Abstract
Previous work described the biochemical composition and organization of LHC II pigment-proteins that included a previously undescribed component called LHC Ile (1). This complex was reported to contain 3% of the total chlorophyll in PS II (Chi a/b ratio-1.4) and a peptide of Mr 12,000–13,000. It was also distinguished by its relatively high xanthophyll content. It was suggested that LHC IIe might play a photoprotective role rather than a light-harvesting one due to its below unit stoichiometry when compared to the other minor LHC II pigment-proteins, and its high xanthophyll content. This study is a continuation of the work on LHC Ile.
