Abstract

Since the discovery of Helicobacter pylori infection by Marshall and Warren1 there have been many attempts at eliminating this infection with different antibiotic combinations. Bismuth was one of the first agents used in this regard. When used in combination with other antibiotics it continues to be one of the choices for H. pylori treatment recommended by several recent Consensus Conferences2–4. Several studies on H. pylori eradication have been carried out in Canada but relatively few have examined combinations which include bismuth. The purpose of this chapter is to describe the different studies which have examined bismuth triple and quadruple therapies in Canada.
