Abstract
This bibliography focuses on women and higher education cross-nationally. It has its origins in a broader earlier annotated bibliography (Kelly and Kelly, 1989) which listed over 1800 works on women’s schooling in the Third World in general and a much smaller number on women and higher education. This bibliography differs in that it includes references on women’s higher education in North American, European, and industrialized Asian and African nations and has been updated to include materials published through 1989. The present bibliography contains studies appearing in the 1980s. It is a guide to recently published research rather than a comprehensive listing of research. The bibliography concentrates on published research and was drawn from standard reference works, including the National Union Catalog, The Education Index, the Social Science Index, the British Humanities Index, the British Education Index, the Canadian Education and Bulletin Signeltique. It contains scholarly books and articles. Excluded are popular materials, very short articles and reportage, most government documents, and dissertations. Works in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and German are listed, but, given the guides consulted, the bibliography is most comprehensive for research in English.
