Abstract
This paper presents an overview of the U.S. Photovoltaic Program Plan for Fiscal Years 1991 to 1995. It defines the activities that DOE believes are needed to expand the acceptance of photovoltaics into the utility as well as the transportation, buildings, and industrial sectors. The paper highlights the benefits of photovoltaics, the DOE strategy to enhance its potential, and specific research and development, technology manufacturing, and systems/market activities that will be undertaken. The paper sets forth a program goal of 1,000 MW installed in the U.S. by the year 2000, with a significant penetration of the enormous overseas market potential that exists for PV in the remote, grid-connected, and ultimately bulk power markets.
