The 2000 km Algerian Desert Tracks Beaconed with Solar Energy

  • Conference paper
Tenth E.C. Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference

Abstract

This paper is a brief summary of all the steps and results obtained with photovoltaic beacons used in the Algerian desert to trace safety tracks for transport. The idea to beacon these mortal tracks was motivated by two main reasons:

  • Security of persons crossing the region (tourists) or people living and travelling into it.

  • To maintain a vital commercial flux exchange (between wilayates or with limitroph countries)

Photovoltaic solar energy imposed itself for the advantages offered (costs, low maintenance, non polluant...) compared to other conventionnal energies as the grid.

The work has been attributed to the CDER to study and realize, with the help of the concerned wilayates, five tracks (2000 km).

Two prototypes were necessary for the achievement of this project.
