Abstract
This group met under the chairmanship of Graeme Bonham-Carter of the Canadian Geological Survey. Whilst all Geological Surveys have some primary goals in common, no two have precisely the same terms of reference or work programme. Indeed, the programmes of some overlap noticeably with other application areas represented at this ARW. The features which typify the Geological Surveys in their potential use of 3-D systems, therefore, are:
-
a wide range of applications fed by large multiple attribute databases which are largely internal, but commonly accessible across the organisation.
-
the need to develop the best understanding of the national or regional geology, and to communicate this understanding to external users.
