Integrated Structural Optimization System

  • Chapter
Topology Design of Structures

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 227))

Abstract

This article describes a three-phase process for generating optimal structural designs: starting with boundary and packaging conditions a fully detailed design is derived that may include manufacturing considerations. The first phase is based on the homogenization approach, the second on a variety of image processing and artificial intelligence techniques, and the third on more traditional size and shape optimization. The article focuses on two-dimensional problems for which full automation has been achieved.
