Abstract

We compared electron transport determined by the saturating pulse method with the oxygen evolution of samples of two marine algae, Tetraselmis spp. and Rhodomonas spp., grown in continuous-batch cultures. The relation between oxygen evolution and electron transport is linear over a range of light intensities from 0 to 500 µmol m-2 s-1. The fluorescence measurement is quite easy and could be made suitable for application in situ, which is a large advantage to the measurement of oxygen evolution and 14C incorporation.
