Abstract
During the 1993 NATO Advanced Research Workshop, two evening discussion sessions addressed research and development needs in Integrated Resource Planning and Demand-Side Management. The key conclusions are:
-
• For the near term the most-cited R&D needs are in technology and program performance data, as well as in end-use technologies-notably lighting and motors/drives
-
• For the longer term a wide variety of both supply-side and end-use technology R&D needs were cited, with some focus on industrial processes, building envelope technologies, and energy supply technologies such as biomass, photovoltaics and storage
-
• Recommendations for specific fundamental scientific research underlying IRP/DSM application were diverse.
-
• The Eastern European situation involves broad and urgent needs for basic knowledge-building and IRP/DSM implementation assistance as well as research.
