Abstract
Overall production levels of food legumes in West Asia and North Africa have not increased substantially in the last decade and certainly not in accordance with their potential. In order to ensure rapid adoption by farmers of new improved technologies, we have examined whether or not scientists should or can have complete confidence in both their identification of critical constraints for on-farm trials, and in the robustness of their technological recommendations. The keys to future success are effective communication and true integration of research and extension efforts.
