Volatile Organic Compounds and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Soils Polluted by Industrial Activities: Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry (FT-ICR) as an Investigation Tool

Contaminated Soil ’95

Part of the book series: Soil & Environment ((SOEN,volume 5))

Summary

FT-ICR mass spectrometry may be considered as a new analytical method for the diagnosis of soils contaminated with organic compounds. Optimization of the parameters of an ICR events sequence governing an analysis is presented. Coupling the use of the solid phase microextraction technique to FT-ICR mass spectrometry makes it possible to extract and analyze some of the pollutants from “synthetic” soils spiked with PAHs, without solvent extraction.
