Abstract
An introductory account is given of the idea of subdynamics as developed by Prigogine and his coworkers. In the first few sections we outline the usual form of the theory as it applies to classical Hamiltonian systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom. The later parts of the lectures provide an alternative approach to the same ideas, an approach which shows more clearly the connection with established methods of perturbation theory such as the method of Lie series.
