Abstract

In this chapter we prove a very simple theorem, known as the projection theorem or Lax-Milgram theorem. It implies existence and uniqueness of ‘weak’ solutions for certain classes of linear elliptic problems. In Part II, two applications are developed (cf. Chapter 7; Sections 11.1 and 12.1).
