Abstract

Since some objects absorb more energy than others, solar radiation is partially and unequally reflected by different objects. The eye and photographic film register only reflected radiation; the remainder of the solar energy is absorbed by objects, atmospheric gases, and/or refracted by the upper atmospheric boundary and/or diffracted by the atmosphere itself.
