Abstract
While French-language authors of Rwanda belong to the Congolese cultural sphere, English-language authors are oriented towards the east. John Nagenda (born in 1938 in Gahini), a missionary’s son, came to Makerere, Uganda, at the age of nineteen. At the Makerere University College in Kampala, a significant centre of English-language authors had arisen. Nagenda was one of the editors of the journal Penpoint, with which many writers were associated.
