Abstract

The subject of this presentation is a peculiar disease process which may develop around the vitreo-retinal border structures. It consists pathologically of a cellular proliferation on the inner retinal surface (GLOOR, 1969a, b, c). This is a proliferation of cells in or at the border of a cavity which is usually practically free of cells, except for a few monocytes, which the so-called hyalocytes really are (GLOOR, 1973). I shall try to show on the hand of a few selected cases that there exists any transitional stage between the single postoperative macular pucker or postcoagulative epiretinal fibrosis and massive preretinal retraction. Finally, I shall leave you with some questions which, I hope, could show in which direction pertinent further research on this disease should be guided.
