Summary
The torrenticolous Coleoptera in Rumania have been investigated by the author during ten years in more than 450 streams in all regions of the country. The present paper is based on about 20500 specimens. The torrenticolous associations are formed by 52 species (27 Hydraenidae, 16 Elmidae, 1 Dryopidae, 8 Dytisciae and 1 Gyrinidae). The species number within one association may vary between 19 (in the Banat Mts.) and 1 (in springs of several mountain ranges). The streams of the various regions are characterized by presence or even predominance and, on the other hand, absence of certain species. Detailed descriptions of the associations are given, and the zoogeographical significance of single species and of the associations are discussed.
