Abstract
The problem of significance is not limited to our era nor to our station in the world; it springs from man’s essential being and troubles him in all ages and wherever he exists. It is timeless, yet it has peculiar relevance to our times, whose confusion is characterized by loss of perspective and by misconceptions about the role of science in society and its threat to human values.
