Abstract
The butterflies of New Caledonia were described in detail by Holloway amp; Peters (1976). This chapter deals with the remainder of the ‘macrolepidoptera’. The systematic order is that currently in use in the British Museum (Natural History), largely based on that of Common (1970), and runs as follows: Zygaenoidea (Limacodidae); Geometroidea (Geometridae, Uraniidae); Sphingoidea (Sphingidae); Notodontoidea (Thaumetopoeidae, Notodontidae); Noctuoidea (Lymantriidae, Arctiidae, Ctenuchidae, Hypsidae, Nolidae, Noctuidae, Agaristidae). Only those families represented in New Caledonia have been listed in the above order. The subfamilies of the Noctuidae follow the arrangement of Nye (1975).
