Abstract
As the name implies integrated control means the use of all systems of control, i.e. biological and cultural, with the careful use of chemical control methods when these are selective and not detrimental to biological methods (Greathead, 1976; van Emden, 1974a,b; Way, 1977). However, for perennial crops integrated control measures can be implemented much more easily and with a greater chance of success than with annual crops, such as cabbage, which of necessity therefore can only be controlled by limited integrated methods. Nevertheless, where large monocultures of cabbage are grown certain measures such as ploughing, rolling, time of seeding and, less often, interplanting can be practised to combat the wide variety of cabbage pests, including P. brassicae.
