Abstract

In this contribution the relationships between the various forms of endometrial hyperplasia and the subsequent development of endometrial adenocarcinoma are evaluated. The current uncertainties about this relationship reflect the extraordinary variations in terminology and definitions, the differing conceptual approaches, the methodological flaws in most prospective and retrospective studies and the lack of agreement amongst pathologists as to the criteria for distinguishing between some forms of hyperplasia and adenocarcinoma which cloud this whole topic.
