Abstract
In whichever climatic regime we live, everyday observations make us aware of the complexities of fluid movement: gusting winds with eddies picked out by the irregular paths of suspended leaves; the majestic sight of a turbulent, sediment-laden river in flood; flash floods and sheet flows issuing from desert wadis; the inward spiral of a plains dust devil or tornado.
